Lech/Zurs

Lech am Arlberg

Lech is an attractive traditional village tucked away in a narrow valley on the banks of a river, with a large collection of sumptuous four- and five-star hotels.
Unfortunately it is still not (officialy) possible to ski to Lech from St Anton. But you can take the free skibus (blue busses) from Alpe Rauz (piste 17). This skibus will take you in 10-15 minutes in the ski area’s from Lech.  Since the ski busses are to small, make sure you ski down to Alpe Rauz in the morning, to enjoy a full day of skiing in Lech and Zürs.
An alternative is to take the paid “postbus” departing from St Anton. More space and a direct ride. It’s only a few euro’s.

Apres ski in Lech am Arlberg

The apres ski is different then the big neighbour St Anton. Much more quiet..So what to do? Early afternoon, go up to Oberlech (by the Petersbodenbahn or walk uphill) for some good apres ski with champaign or wine in the sun. When the sun is down, go to the village and there will be after ski in Hotel Pfefferkorn and hotel Tannenbergerhof.  Sometimes later in the evening Hotel Crone has some nice party’s. In spring time streets are filled with people sun bathing during apres ski. Skiing in Lech can be done untill late spring time (usually untill early may) and when the days are long, the streets are filled with people sunbathing and drinking.
Close to Lech you will find Zürs , Zürs has 2 discotheques, see the section below. But if you want some real exciting apres skiing when staying in Lech, take a taxi to neighbouring St Anton for a day/night.

Ski Possibilities

Skiing in Lech is easy if you compare it to Sankt Anton. The slopes are relatively easy and family orientated. Don’t miss the last ski buss back to Alpe Rauz or you have to pay an expensive taxi ride.
Zürs am Arlberg:

Zürs is perched 5km away at a snow-sure high altitude on the Flexen Pass, in a region that looks more towards Switzerland than to the rest of Austria and is best reached by car from Zürich. The skibus from St Anton (Alpe Rauz) stops in Zürs. Zürs is very snow secure.  Zürs is one of the most exlusive resorts from Austria and there are only a handfull of 5 star hotels. It’s is connected to Lech.
Nightlife in Zürs:
Zürs has 2 lounges/discotheques. One is called Vernissage and one is called Zürserl. So if you are staying in Lech or Zürs and you do not want to go to the bigger nightlife of St Anton, head for these places.

Ski possibilities in Zürs

The terrain here is markedly easier than in St Anton with often a better snow quality because of the height. There are plenty of cruising runs best suited to intermediates. As a result, large numbers of skiers and riders based in St Anton come here for the day. However, overcrowding is not an issue. Only the free blue ski busses can get crowded. Alternative is a Taxi or the yellow postbus. But you have to pay for that one.
There is an unofficial off piste route, between St Anton and Zürs (called “back of the Valluga”), but you are only allowed to do the route with an official guide, otherwise you are not allowed in the lift to the start point with ski’s on..
There is a ski route between Zürs and Lech, it is nice.  Not that difficult and will give you some nice views. Be aware, the madloch chair lift, can be crowded on busy days.
