Ski St Anton

Ski St Anton am Arlberg

Skiing in St Anton is skiing in one of the top ski resorts in the world and one of the best from Austria. St Anton is equal or better then these famous resorts:  Chamonix, Val ’Isere, Verbier, Zermatt, Jackson Hole en Whistler.

St Anton is divided in parts. The part around in the centre is the most attractive and is situated around the füssgängerzone. (pedestrian zone). Nasserein is a part of the village about 10-15 minutes walk from the city centre. Nasserein has also a skilift (nassereinbahn) to the ski area. But on your way back you have to walk uphill to your hotel or appartment. St Jakob is even further then Nasserein and a steep uphill walk (if you want to walk 20 minutes or more). However you can take the skibus or taxi. Oberdorf is on the otherside of St Anton but also you have to walk uphill.

Three sections of sking:

The ski area is in three sections, one on either side of the St Anton Valley. Rendl, the smaller and easier of these, is a pleasant suntrap with a choice of red and blue runs reached by a gondola which rises inconveniently a short bus ride or awkward walk in boots from outside the village. As from the season 2009/20010, RendlBahn (the gondola that brings you up at Rendl, will depart from the village, so there is no need for a short walk anymore)  See the news section for more information. Rendl has a terrain park and is popular with riders.
However, most skiers head each morning for the opposite side of the valley. A quad-chair followed by a six-pack take you up Gampen and Kapall for the easiest intermediate skiing in the main area. That said, the long black descent from the top follows the course used for the downhill races in the World Championships.

It is still not possible to ski (by using official runs) to Zürs and Lech. So if you do not have a guide with you, please do not try to ski this “missing link” but take the run down to Alpe Rauz and take the free ski busses (crowded!) to Lech or Zürs. Busses are always crowded, so make sure you take the run to Alpe Rauz early morning to enjoy a beautiful day of skiing in Lech and Zürs.

Don’t forget, that you can go lower down, as you pass Alpe Rauz. It is possible to ski down to Stuben. Stuben has great off piste possibilities.
